chat I need roommate conflict advice as someone who avoids conflict like the plague

reddit r/amitheasshole

So my roommate has a white noise machine she puts on to sleep, and Iā€™ve been noticing recently that how loud the noise machine is directly related to how well I sleep (it is volume adjustable) and it also makes it reallly hard for me to fall asleep if Iā€™m already in bed and she turns it on (I go to bed before her)

So no problem first thing I do is Iā€™m like yo roommate, noise machine is bugging me is there a quieter volume? And she turned it to a quieter volume that night problem solved, and before I go to bed I turn it on and I set it to that volume that allows me to sleep well.

But past couple days sheā€™s been turning up the volume before she gets into bed, and I keep waking up in the middle of the night and not sleeping very well :( so Iā€™m not sure what to do bc Iā€™m assuming she turned it up bc itā€™s too quiet for her now.

if it disturbs you, but you think they canā€™t sleep without it, did you try earplugs? (itā€™s the easiest solution without confrontation.)

I think that is the easiest solution, but Iā€™m worried thatā€™ll bug me when I go sleep or theyā€™ll fall out or I wonā€™t be able to hear my alarm

It is something I can try though (and probably should try)

the reason I havenā€™t tried it is bc of the alarm thing, I need to find a day where me waking up at my alarm is not required which is rare

My condolences.

Earplugs shouldnā€™t make you deaf. (and you can just adjust the volume of your alarm, if you are concerned about that.)
But I think most alarms are noisier than white noise. (I never heard white noise, so I donā€™t have experience with it.)

or you can use a headset connected to your phone, and the alarm will sound directly in your ears. (I donā€™t recommend this though, since itā€™s a bad experienceā€¦)

 Iā€™ll be home for spring break next week so I can prolly try them out then, actually
