Strong mood.

Long nails is unhygienic at least for food, if nothing rlse. All kind of nasty gets under your nails and it doesn’t all go off when you wash your hands

it does if you wash carefully

you the type of guy who puts his hands under the sink for like 1s and is done

If you don’t cook and dont eat with your fingers its probably fine though

The silent propaganda I have been pushing in my games is done by designing the setups with a mindset such as “make the mech so convoluted that people would rather abandon it rather than use it”. The mech is still there, but whether you will use it or not is up to you.

also if you get messy enough it can get even under short nails

try preparing mushrooms and you’ll understand
it feels like you have to take off your skin to have clean hands

I do this but under the expectation that people will use the mech.

especially with the slimier mushrooms that you want to peel the skin off of

As for me
I don’t have any expectations for my players. Taking slankers and non-optimal mech players to account is just extra time and effort that I simply don’t want to expend.

(Debatable. Maybe a part of me will take this into account, but certainly not me in my normal state.)

As I said before:

(
I care.)

I enjoy creating lots of mech, but that’s kinda because I forget how easy it is for players to drown in mech. Some good examples are how my mafia team in Virtuous IV and 5.5 got much farther than we really deserved through town misunderstanding the mech in play.

This gets compounded when players don’t know everything on the field. Circle Mafia is a really good example of this, where benguined was able to claim that his second flip into mafia was because a role forger was in play rather than him just being converted by the cult.

One of my aims going forward is to simplify mech by breaking up when players receive it. Zelda Mafia’s OP text, for example, was structured based on when I expected that a player would need to use it, so I moved stuff about voting structure and action resolution much later than in my original document.

also there are times when tools are actually bad

tools are made to last (and generally therefore are made of very hard materials like metal) and need to be grippy (and often have some form of knurling or ridged pattern to prevent them from slipping)

if you’re trying to do something like depress a release on a connector made of plastic, using metal tools on it is likely to damage the connector, especially with repeated usage

however, your fingernails are much less hard than a metal tool and are not going to damage the plastic, making them a better option than a tool in many cases
