this is particularly true as a visibly trans girl so

no campaign ran on “men are trash” or included it in its messaging. i do not seriously think any guy 18-29 saw shit like the #metoo movement and thought “oh no i might be next” without having good reason to be afraid. i mean probably a vanishingly small number did, but whatever. some random chud podcaster saying shit like “they all hate you and think you’re evil for being a man” etc. etc. and just lying may have convinced them, but that’s not something that any of us can influence.

they see people online say this, feel ashamed to be themselves, and choose the party whode members dont make them feel like that. its an exceedingly common reason to go right

some guy on bluesky was arguing with me that dems needed to distance themselves from trans people because some trans “activists” were mean to him personally on social media. it’s like the same thing. what random people say on social media is not a policy choice of any political party. especially given there was a shift in the last 4 years electorally, but not a change in the cultural landscape on this front. what i did see more of was the proliferation of alpha male grifter types, and right wing content creators in general which, again, are gonna do what they always do with regards to trying to capture existing negative sentiment and stoke the fires to energize them to vote.

you can find people writing about the crisis of masculinity for literal decades. same with “no one wants to work anymore” for that matter. it’s the same shit in a contemporary package. there’s the whole “war on christmas” narrative as well which is also just demonstrably not true, but that doesn’t stop the occasional rando from trying to whip people up into a frenzy over it.

i wish the education system functioned enough to teach people how to actually Think Critically about what they hear

Damn I’m disappointed. I thought they all followed a mathematical progression of 1 or 2 inches in between

tbf they try at least a little! they just squander it by making people think critically about the color of the curtains instead of like. important things

yea

history class tries to make people think about important things and in turn gets a ton of shit for not being patriotic enough (i.e. telling history as it happened instead of a whitewashed version)

yea

I’m sorry to disappoint but I don’t know of any 6’0 women that went to my high school
