Redacted isn’t the group with the majority of the power and systemic benefits and a long history of oppressing women, and organizing society to give themselves all the agency while denying it to women.
I sometimes jokingly say that “all trans girls are the same” in contexts where it’s expressing that whatever was is a common sentiment, and often something I share or have experienced. That’s a sweeping generality that’s also not true. I don’t make that sweeping generalization outside of those contexts because I don’t believe them to be universal, and I wouldn’t want to inadvertently alienate someone who didn’t share that sentiment or experience, and I certainly don’t go assuming.
When I say “men are trash” in response to someone describing a relationship dynamic that has historically subjugated women, I feel like it’s pretty obvious what exactly I’m expressing distaste for in a pithy way. If you strip it of all discursive, historical, and cultural context, yeah it’s not a great thing to say, but why would you do that??? Like holy shit it’s not like I pulled that expression out of thin air. Did you read that and not immediately understand what exactly I was saying? I feel like I’m going insane.
