I dreamt about hanging out with donald trump in my living room for hours. His aura was menacing. We bet 1 million dollars on a bo3 game of flipping coins. The coins were big and heavy and my fingers were small and hands clumsy. I couldnt do even 1 coin flip right. I kept messing them up and then being embarassed if the botched flip should count or not. I kept trying to be reasonable and be worried if he will dislike me for my words. I offered to cook him food too. They put him on the tv and he complained that they make him look bad there. I felt like a little bitch

If you want an answer from me of whether evil exists id need an elaboration on which definition of “evil” youre working with

One definition is somewhat supernatural - the forces of evil. The supernatural doesnt exist so “evil” being a subset of the supernatural also doesnt exist

If youre going by the definition of “cause a net negative on humanity and/or cause suffering / pain” then evil definitely exists as there are people who cause that. Not all have that intentions, so even if you disregard those there are still people who were born with sadism and sociopathy and who purposefully will cause it. Its not their fault that they were born with such a brain but their actions are conscious / purposeful. If youre using a third definition of “evil” id need to know it

I just think it’s ~never useful to model people as doing things “because they are evil”, in essentially all cases people do things because they have some motivation to do so and calling them “evil” terminates any thought about what those motivations could be and makes you understand less about the world

I think that “you should be wary of calling people evil” and “evil doesnt exist (as a concept, implied)” are two different things

Even people who just think hurting people feels good are doing it because they want ot feel good, not because they’re the villains in some story. Like “evil” in fiction is often a distinct thing from that, where evil destroys and kills just because. There’s no indication in like zelda botw that Calamity Ganon destroys the world because it feels good or he wants power he just does it because he’s evil. That doesn’t exist in real life. Viewing things like that is bad

Evil doesn’t exist

The thing they made up for stories called “evil” is not real

It’s ~never a motivation that actually causes anybody to do anything and therefore claiming it exists is like claiming destiny exists or foreshadowing exists like you can see patterns in the world that kind of resemble it if you squint but you’re hallucinating it from unrelated phenomena

And the ~ is just there because the argument still doesn’t really break down if there’s one evil guy

Which is why i asked for an elaboration on your definition. Evil as a motivation doesnt exist, evil as a description of egregiously harmful actions is a definition of the word people use

I think most people who use the word are using it to draw a parallel between the fiction of evil-as-a-motivation and evil-as-an-effect and I think this is bad

Obviously the question asked just “does evil exist” is unclear and weird. Which is why it’s a 3 day poll not a 7 day one

But what if I want to punch tutuu in the face because I have an evil desire to do so, a pleasant feeling that motivates me

You aren’t punching anyone. Youre too weak

And you’re too dork that I can simply exploit that against your dummy little face
