Oh yeah fair I voted under the assumption L existed

Oh

99% odds if it gets revealed there is an investigation L’s identity gets doxxed on war thunder forums somehow

And about 100% odds that some guy discovers it all by sheer chance of “someone had to”, is laughed off, some FUCKING UDIOT doxxes him for fun, he does, rinse and repeat

Other than that
Realistically he’d be able to kill a lot more people but Light is arrogant af so I wouldn’t put it past him to get caught immediately

Also 110% odds Light brags about it on the internet and dies instantly

Wait, doesn’t Kira already has access to internet in the series?
How would you explain him knowing the names of almost all of the criminals he killed via the Death note? (I highly doubt every criminal he killed appaered on cable…)

i think canon explanation is he has access to the police database b/c of his dad

Wouldn’t be that obviuos?

(also one of the reasons L was after Light especially (and knowing for a fact that he has connection to the police), because he (Kira) changed schedule after his (L’s) conclusion that Kira is a high schooler.)

near instantly

death note is a tv program that exists in our world

tbh its like, so easy to NOT get caught with the death note

even if you wanna make it known that like, someone is judging these people, have them all die at the same time! pick randomly! like light is JUST stupid

Why doesn’t light just doxxes and kills everyone, is he stupid

yeah but the poll is contingent on them acting like light

the stupidity is implied

Assuming the same setup, (with the same intelligence/mentality of the people.) I doubt adding internet would add to much to the mix.

spoilers for death note

1 Kira is already using extreme speed writing in the note, so it wouldn’t increase his killing speed.
2 Japanese young people are still rule-abiding at hearth, so he still wouldn’t start killing during his classes. (This is why he was suspected as a japanese high-schooler, and revealing in the end that Kira has connection with the police investigating Kira)
3 I think, Light is clever enough not to publicize himself on the internet, it’s so easily hackable, and get the police on him, almost immediately.
4 L still would figure out, that Kira needs name/face to kill someone. (There are still quite a few criminals not known by their real name (only as an alias), or never shown their faces on any media.) So he still probably would use fakenames/aliases.
5a Light probably wouldn’t kill the reporter masqarading as “L” (this is literally the main difference, adding internet would make in my opinion) 5b but this can be circumvented with localised internet news, and knowing Light’s personality, he probably wouldn’t look for news from sites of other regions, still narrowing down his localization.
6. Light’s first interaction with Misa still need to be made during public announcement. (Misa don’t know who Kira is, even though she has the eyes.) After the elaborate scheme Misa made to finally with meet Kira, I don’t think he would be stupid enough to use internet to contact Light… (Light even would be more suspicious of her, if she did that)
7. Near and Mello would know about L’s death probably a bit more using the internet, but it wouldn’t give them too much imo.

The rest would play out mostly the same as in the series, probably.

i watched it for the first time a few months ago

Fine, i just assumed there isn’t anyone who wasn’t familiar with it. (And still interested to watch/read the series)

I’m really sorry.

I think Light is clever, he just has a god-complex, which makes his actions predictable. (Especially for a number 1, 2 or 3 detective as L)
