they are a team of misfortune. two years ago they led the division for the entire year and then choked it to the braves in the last week
last year they decked out with a bunch of free agents and an absurdly high payroll and then sucked and went sub .500. and their owner flat out said they wouldn’t be competitive again until 2025 at the latest
and then this year they started out awful. but then grimace threw out the first pitch and they went on an absurd winning pace. and have basically been trading second in the nl east with the braves for the rest of the season. capped off by this.
