How unfortunate it is, that I cannot salvage it as a System.
growing up i was taught that you shouldnât give money to panhandlers (differing way of saying homeless people who ask for money so it sounds less bad) because theyâre gonna spend it on drugs, and you should give your charity to the institute in question instead
i feel like thats just greed but whatâs the likelihood of a homeless person actually spending money on drugs and stuff if theyre asking for it
i think if theyâre spending it on drugs thatâs okay because itâs probably the only thing that makes life bearable for them.
yeah
i donât like the idea of homeless people dying cause of my actions
m not trying to virtue signal but i feel like iâd at least try to ask cause maybe some of you know better then me
whenever i rarely go outside and see a homeless person i try to buy them food but thats both really expensive cause of where they hang around and not a great use of money they can put better use in⌠by buying things they need with the money that i can give them
i donât wanna hurt people though and drugs have a very decent likelihood of hurting people and i want to avoid that if possible
so is giving them money a better solution 99% of the time, or am i overestimating the harm of drugs or something
my point is more that it shouldnât be a reason to stop you. the thing they need is a consistent shelter where they feel secure in their person and belongings (often not really true of many homeless shelters because theyâve had their stuff stolen before and itâs only temporary!), food, and probably healthcare. none of us really have enough resources to fix the problem for 1 person much less all of them. itâs a systemic failure. but thereâs nothing wrong with showing them a little kindness even if they use it to self-medicate because their life is more or less misery.
