oh ribombee gets shield dust. itâs usable kinda but mostly for being a fast sticky web setter
araquanid has seen more use lately though because people realized they want their webs setter to be able to withstand a light breeze

araquanid is a very fun pokemon because its ability is unfathomably fucking busted, doesnât actually say what it does, and also its movepool is ass so it doesnât matter

araquanid gets double stab on water and hyper-resists fire, a reasonably common offensive type, and instead in smogon itâs mostly just a solid as hell mon in the lower tiers with no hope of climbing

and then you realisre why when you look at its movepool and realise that Sticky Web is basically the only move it has that it actually wants to use

in a perfect world Araquanid would be using a move better than Liquidation as itsâ stab option, but they were at least smart enough to balance itsâ movepool around itsâ ability. Which is weird because it doesnât mention the hyper-stab part, despite them very obviously being aware of it

i actually quite like both galvantula and araquanid
araquanid is neat iâm just confused by itsâ underlying design decisions
anyway my favorite instance of a great pokemon ruined by a bad movepool, probably for the best, is Porygon-Z
