I fought a kid in 5th grade at the geography bee but it was schoolwise (5th-8th graders all competed against each other) and my 5th grade competitor was god’s most georgepaht nerd warrior and im pretty sure he won the school competition every year even against the older kids. I believe it was down to me and him for 5th grade and I forgot about the yellow river. Embarrassing!

Other than that there were not so many competitions for me to fight in. There was a tricia team one in middleschool and I got to be team captain for being really good at the practice questions but when we were on the actual. Stage. We blanked on Seoul and got similarly fucked over

My high school in general didn’t. Do s lot of celevration if academic achievement. They got rid of all the awards for academic achievement and replaced them with rewards for showing Virtues. They didn’t even tell us our class rank so I couldn’t fucking put it on college applicstion

I didnt get a single award at grad aduation because th ey were all basically absed off how much the teachers liked you and how Positive and Kind you were. Except national merit scholarship. Which nobody ahd gotten grom my school in years. Wonder why

Straight up they gage me nothing. Four years I was there. Never got any of the dhit h th ey handed out because it was all just teacher decided based on Posituve Attitude instead of based on your actual abolity

very popular around here, kids are encouraged to sign up. there are multiple regional ones every year, 2 or 3. ive read that it might be leftover from ex soviet countries, they invested a lot in olympiads and olympics and competitions and all that

And im sure they all felt very good about themselves recongising the students with a Growth Mindset or whatever but what that essentially meant was the ability to present being likesble to the teacher which is more of a pervert incentive to be rewarding than whatever unfair advantages younget in avtual academics. Its a dtupid thing to be reqarding its an incentive for perverts

Its because theres a lot of really good private schools in my area which offer enough financial aid that theyre hypotheticlaly achievable even not for rich kids (though feasibility differs)and so like very academically ambitious kids are to some degree siphoned off
