yea there’s the Thing That Abusers Do which is still called gaslighting b/c that’s the original
which is more about the pattern than anything (the abuser gets you to question your perception of reality by constantly insisting things that blatantly contradict What You Saw are true)
whereas a friend saying that another friend is gaslighting them b/c of one instance is basically just saying “your lying to me”
it has a slightly different connotation (lying to me also includes subtler lies, but gaslighting me does not i think?)
but i think the key difference between “gaslighting as in pop culture” and “gaslighting The Thing That Abusers Do” is just that. well, the abuser is constantly and often blatantly doing it. which, yeah that’s how abuse happens lol
