thoughts on fountain by marcel duchamp?
Art is labour, and most of the art done for industry thatās being replaced with AI is not deep human expression but, like, uninteresting corporate art. Done for work. I make and sell art, itās fun enough, but itās not more fun to me than, like, chemistry. Itās entirely possible for somebody to put their heart and soul into corporate art, of course, and love it and make it meaningful, but it was also plenty possible to do that with handmade clothing, doesnāt mean the automatic loom wasnāt a good thing
Art industry for the most part (I donāt think art jobs are more Beautiful and Fun and Valuable than other jobs, the art industry is extremely exploitative)
itās art
not sure how ai devalues it then if a literal urinal is passing your bar
Oh ok
I was thinking that you meant that art as a whole is like, useless and not ever worthwhile
But Iām also not super big on the soul of visual art as a sacred thing as a lot of people online are. Idk. Itās a thing I can do. Itās a hobby. Itās like cooking or weaving or whatever. Itās just a thing that people can do, itās not the meaning of life
So many people build their entire identity around being Artists and Creative and believe that making Art is what gives them value and worth and humanity. I odnāt think thatās true.
ofc you hate modern art
i am gods strongest modern art defender
Not what heās saying
i donāt hate modern art i just donāt get where your bar of devaluing is
Eh
I mean obviously itās not absolute?
But I feel like. It is true for many people
A lot of people like art a lot, and doing things that you like can give your life meaning/value/humanity. But art isnāt exceptional. Doing chemistry gives my life meaning/value/humanity
Just because one person derives value from it doesnāt make it the meaning of life for everyone, is what I mean, and it is ok if some people donāt care about it so much and would like it to be automated
Like you dont always not have meaning if you donāt create art or whatever but you also donāt not always get meaning from creating art. Meaning is a person to person thing I thought we established this
Yea I figured you were attacking the idea of it being absolute
Me when
the entire point of art to me is to invoke an emotion and try to dig a little into what the artist was attempting express/portray through the art
i canāt do the second part with what a machine makes.
i am poorly explaining myself arenāt i.
Right but Iām saying that art is not universally important, that itās not uniquely important, that you shold not have a superiority complex ove rother people because you are an Artist
