then i feel bad
oh my god i havent heard from Arete in months
aret aret
honestly at the end of the day my opinion on ai art is that i donât know enough about it to say whether itâs morally good or bad and at the end of the day i donât want to do research on it because i just donât care. itâs not of interest to me. i think more people need to realize that itâs okay to admit they just havenât done their research on a given subject, and that this is not a sign of weakness. from an aesthetic pov i like human art more than ai art as a general principle but that doesnât mean there canât exist some ai artworks i like more than some human artworks.
at the end of the day i think a lot of the backlash against ai art is the instinctual ânew thing badâ reaction that a lot of people, including myself, default to when faced with a changing world. you must learn to crush this reaction under your boot and evaluate new things on their own merits. itâs okay to not really want to engage with the new thing (i donât have a particular interest in watching parkour civilization or skibidi toilet, but i acknowledge their respective merits and that itâs not a moral failing for people to be intrested in them), but at least admit to yourself that any abject hatred of it is likely irrational. itâs okay to evaluate new things on your own merits and decide you hate them, because at that point you at least have a reason to hate it besides âwow gen alphaâs brains must be rotting.â especially as you grow older itâs easier to fall into âthe new generation sucksâ kind of arguments, which weâre already seeing with gen alpha. conveniently ignoring that we were also cringe when we were younger. the kids will, more likely than not, be alright.
I think trying to pass your AI art off as made by a human without AI is unethical if your art is bad, because your art is bad and stupid, make good art idiot, and itâs SO ethical if your art is good
I havenât been on the forum much lately because Iâve been spending most of my free time participating in a big online collaborative writing project [the thing we are writing is Pathfinder fanfic]
If you make good art itâs SO ethical to lie and cheat and steal to improve the presentation of that art
Because itâs for art.
awhhhh aret aret
at the end of the day iâm another day older holy fuck. must be one of my crutch phrases these days
may youâll love tasing speedruns and trying to pass them off as human then
what not editing that post at all before hitting send does to a mf.
this is why i donât longpost
can i read it? or its not out yet. if its public
Yeah. Thatâs a big part of it for me, too. I really hate seeing people do mass hysteria, and dishonest arguing, and dismissing something outright because itâs associated with Outgroup, and so on and so forth. And a lot of the anti-AI âmovementâ is a lot of those things. I donât care so much if somebody seems to have genuine thoughtful opposition to it, but I donât think most of the opposition is genuine and thoughtful, and I donât currently think any of it is correct (otherwise I would oppose AI art myself)
Only if its art. Its gotta be art
I think this is wrong, medium is an important part of art and deceiving people about the medium can significantly alter the context of the art in a way thatâs imo unethical
bad analogy: if I made a really cool painting by holding the paintbrush with my feet, and then said âlook at this foot paintbrush painting,â thatâs (obviously) fine. But I think it would be wrong to make a painting with my hands, deliberately imitating the style of the foot painting, and then say âlook at this foot paintbrush paintingâ â part of what makes the painting artistically interesting is the fact that it was made with my feet!
Speedrunning can definitely be art but youve gotta do it right like youve gotta have artistic intent. Artists can litearlly kill people and its based if its art
isnt ai more like image- (gets shot 16 times)
art also represents human advancements
i think theres a pretty good reason to cut off what robots can do and what humans can do
cars can go super fast but watching the physical human limit is fun to some people too
