honestly at the end of the day my opinion on ai art is that i don’t know enough about it to say whether it’s morally good or bad and at the end of the day i don’t want to do research on it because i just don’t care. it’s not of interest to me. i think more people need to realize that it’s okay to admit they just haven’t done their research on a given subject, and that this is not a sign of weakness. from an aesthetic pov i like human art more than ai art as a general principle but that doesn’t mean there can’t exist some ai artworks i like more than some human artworks.

at the end of the day i think a lot of the backlash against ai art is the instinctual “new thing bad” reaction that a lot of people, including myself, default to when faced with a changing world. you must learn to crush this reaction under your boot and evaluate new things on their own merits. it’s okay to not really want to engage with the new thing (i don’t have a particular interest in watching parkour civilization or skibidi toilet, but i acknowledge their respective merits and that it’s not a moral failing for people to be intrested in them), but at least admit to yourself that any abject hatred of it is likely irrational. it’s okay to evaluate new things on your own merits and decide you hate them, because at that point you at least have a reason to hate it besides “wow gen alpha’s brains must be rotting.” especially as you grow older it’s easier to fall into “the new generation sucks” kind of arguments, which we’re already seeing with gen alpha. conveniently ignoring that we were also cringe when we were younger. the kids will, more likely than not, be alright.

I think trying to pass your AI art off as made by a human without AI is unethical if your art is bad, because your art is bad and stupid, make good art idiot, and it’s SO ethical if your art is good

I haven’t been on the forum much lately because I’ve been spending most of my free time participating in a big online collaborative writing project [the thing we are writing is Pathfinder fanfic]

If you make good art it’s SO ethical to lie and cheat and steal to improve the presentation of that art

Because it’s for art.

Yeah. That’s a big part of it for me, too. I really hate seeing people do mass hysteria, and dishonest arguing, and dismissing something outright because it’s associated with Outgroup, and so on and so forth. And a lot of the anti-AI “movement” is a lot of those things. I don’t care so much if somebody seems to have genuine thoughtful opposition to it, but I don’t think most of the opposition is genuine and thoughtful, and I don’t currently think any of it is correct (otherwise I would oppose AI art myself)

Only if its art. Its gotta be art

I think this is wrong, medium is an important part of art and deceiving people about the medium can significantly alter the context of the art in a way that’s imo unethical

bad analogy: if I made a really cool painting by holding the paintbrush with my feet, and then said “look at this foot paintbrush painting,” that’s (obviously) fine. But I think it would be wrong to make a painting with my hands, deliberately imitating the style of the foot painting, and then say “look at this foot paintbrush painting” – part of what makes the painting artistically interesting is the fact that it was made with my feet!

Speedrunning can definitely be art but youve gotta do it right like youve gotta have artistic intent. Artists can litearlly kill people and its based if its art

art also represents human advancements
i think theres a pretty good reason to cut off what robots can do and what humans can do
cars can go super fast but watching the physical human limit is fun to some people too
