Or more accurately, I think it is always bad for people to suffer and always good for people to unsuffer. Itā€™s bad when people cause others to suffer, but that doesnā€™t make them stop being people. So yeah, infinite reward for finite good, even small finite good

Punishment is only good insofar as it causes people to stop making other suffer. The victims of punishment do not ā€œdeserveā€ the punishment, and it is not independently good for them to be punished if it does not stop any further harm

There was this question I saw on Tumblr, something approximately resembling these two options:

  1. All the bad people get whatā€™s coming to them and are punished and ultimately killed in a righteous war, some good people suffer in the process but Justice is Served
  2. All the bad people silently and suddenly stop being bad, they do not ever feel regret for what they did and they go completely unpunished, but nobody is ever bad again, the evil just disappears

I am hardline for the second option
