Mine i just noticed that i needed all absolutists dead to stop it, and all absolutists dead meant endgame or 3p, so the deal was an evil ability

i’m not sure what frostwolf is referring to but i dunno why you keep obsessing over this post. at the start of it am literally saying my vote wasn’t related to what you said recently (for the most part), i just thought about your slot when jarek expressed his own suspicions on you

postgame scumcase goes crazy

the argument is whether or not someone spewed luka mafia via slipping knowledge of luka receiving a key

this was frostwolf’s case that he shared itt after someone died, someone is arguing it wasnt a slip

Yes I do believe it was objectively correct to have ended the day if the only concern was balance; and that was my only concern. If that was everyone else’s concern, I don’t think that it’s disputable that ending the day was the best choice for balance.
I did have players voice to me throughout the setup though that people’s feelings were kind of sidelined by me. That’s why I think ending the day can be argued to have been the wrong decision, because I’m sure it did feel vindictive from Eskcanta’s side (and Arctic’s)
Particularly in regards to Eskcanta’s modkill & day end, and the fact that mafia could get their kills blocked at any point which players mentioned “felt bad” - particularly @Litten and @Magnus mentioned with which I agree with
I like having hosted this setup because it’s provided me with a new perspective on hosting. As harsh as it sounds, I’m not sure if it’s ideal to be considering people’s feelings unless they go beyond temporary frustration and upset (if it goes beyond this, it becomes a big problem) when it comes to setup design & host decisions. Even if it was 100% balanced, should I really be prioritise town having power in places elsewhere that does not include protection because mafia kills missing too often feels bad? Just some things to think about for the future. The question will probably be answered as I gain experience in hosting. Do we accept that mafia is an inherently emotional game or should we attempt to subvert this?

i feel like he voted someone before any of these events happened though

Should people’s feelings be given weight in FM? If yes, does the weight change depending on how competitive the setup is or type of setup (vanilla vs rolemadness etc. would imply that vanilla would have much less a weight if so)

weight in what

This question has piqued my interest. Eskcanta pointed out a post restriction on their home forum, which essentially lets an infinite alignment cop become roleblock, redirect, vanillize and tailor immune provided they remain positive in thread and take ample breaks. If they ever fail to comply with this, they lose this passive.

This is obviously a disasterous idea on the face of balance, but this introduced another insight for me that some people’s objectives for forum mafia setups weigh certain factors like fun over fairness which can seem a bit bewildering to some FM vets. It does to myself, having come from a time where competitiveness was prioritised, but I’ve become quite accustomed to the “fun” aspect myself having played BotC, where the storyteller essentially acts as counterbalance to keep the game fair against the fun aspect the scripts nearly always prioritise (looks at Amelia’s hellish scripts which are only meant for the amusement of the ST)

Weight when designing, making decisions, etc.

i personally weigh having fun vs competitive setting as equally important

i dont think this applies only to mafia, it can apply to something like fighting games or moba games

taking away player agency allows for a more competitive setting (stunning in games like mortal kombat or league of legends, blocking an action in mafia)

going too far can make the game frustrating and people would stop bothering (modern yugioh is decided on turn 1, you set up a board of 5-6 negates)

so most of the successful games find a balance between fun (you doing your own combo, having fun) and disruption (stopping your opponent, taking away their agency)
