there were a number of reasons why converting me was not the play, but the main reason (and most dangerous) was that i could not defend myself
i wouldn’t have found it particularly difficult to socially convince the town i was good, but the fact i was politician meant i couldn’t defend myself without making myself even more scumread
so on paper, if i don’t get scumread then yeah, it’s great, but the moment something isn’t looking good, there’s literally nothing i can do about it
there is also the mechanical argument being that i can literally win with wolves so converting me removes the potential teammate
in a way it’s kind of similar to the debate of “do you kill the person scumreading you” (in normal mafia, obviously)
people can make an argument for either case via WIFOM, however if you kill that person then you are no longer going to have that person pushing you which is a major advantage. the same applies to this game, in that not converting me gives you a mechanical advantage, and players can mindlessly debate the wifom aspect but this advantage is permanent regardless of that
i tried to look “good” at the start of the day, but people quickly adopted the mentality that me defending myself = wolfy
which meant i was basically between a rock and a hard place, either defend myself and get called wolfy because “politician would want to die!!!111” or get called wolfy because i’m acting like politician and can’t defend myself
so from a mechanical and social perspective converting me was really quite bad
you guys obviously had to decide this on a whim so meh, not too much could have been done
but going back to the mech/wifom argument, people are always going to talk themselves in and out of “would they convert arctic because it’s unexpected?” and either stance is just as likely to crop up as the other and it’s impossible to predict which, but regardless of which one does, it’s true that you have a mechanical advantage by not converting me, so i think if you at least considered this then you would have made a better choice
i think i personally would have gone for intensify because wolf atlas would probably be kind of obvious, but it’s hard to say

wazza not shooting there was a huge mistake, that allowed village two shots at the outsiders

i went from thinking i was good to thinking i was evil to knowing i was good to knowing i was evil
