According to the bystander effect, individuals are less likely to help a person in need when other people are present than when they’re alone. But just because they aren’t helping out, that doesn’t make them okay with what’s happening. For what you’re suggesting, maybe people don’t have a problem with it and we’re all horrible people, or maybe we haven’t noticed a double standard, or whatever. And in any case, since silence doesn’t constitute agreement, your example with you and Marluna and what I did and didn’t respond to doesn’t mean anything.
(I’m not trying to insult you, I like your company, but I’m trying to explain why it doesn’t make sense to me.)
Perhaps the best thing to do is to agree to disagree. I don’t see any agreement reached anytime soon on this.
