not quite true, it’s more that the other guy was EXPLICITLY pro nazi
america was also one of the bastions of eugenics which informed nazi ideology immensely, and hollywood, as these things go, immediately gave in to germany’s demands so they could atill turn a profit in the country

from what i remember america probably wouldn’t’ve joined the war on the side of germany but it absolutely would have just sort of sat there and let germany win while it had its own fascist power grab
