I’m semi-convinced that May is using GPT-3 to generate these responses.
Your mother is so nonsense that Jake is semi-convinced she’s been generated using GPT-3
the point of art is to draw off inspirations
computers can do art w/out inspirations rly easily, just randomly generate every pixel
the distinctly human part at the present imo is being able to translate a non-art emotion or experience into a work of art
exactly
art is one of the primary ways humans express emotion into creating something
which is what makes it good and relatable to other humans
an ai can draw a nice looking picture of a lady in a 16th century style with 8 fingers and a gigantic pair of scissors for no reason, but that doesn’t have any actual soul behind it
if anything, the best part about ai art is how it creates unbelievably cursed things because it lacks the ability to know what is absolutely ridiculous or not
once it starts improving and more accurately following the prompt, it will lose all it’s value outside of making portraits for npcs in a d&d game
My brain is so repetitive that my words sound like they’ve been generated using GPT-3. You know when it just goes into loops replacing one word over and over again? You’ve seen that.
I agree that it wouldn’t have freedom of thought, but it would still be thinking there, as you stated it would be.
disagree with this assertion though
you think how your neurons have programmed you to think
it’s translatable to a computer program (albeit very complex)
i think the question of whether or not the program was written by your mom should have bearing on whether the thoughts they produce are “real”
now you can argue how these thoughts may be translated to human thoughts (many are programmed to imitate human output without human thought complexity!) but that’s a different story
into Soops
omg she said it. she said the thing
its like youre in a metal box and have a big pile of books in malayalam and occasionally ppl drop envelopes written in malayalam through a slit
every time you trick someone into thinking you speak malayalam the arbiter gives you drugs to smoke
they have thoughts for sure but theyre unlikely to be particularly deep or insightful
no, it would not be thinking
it would be EMULATING thought
this is what i mean
that’s what i’m asserting, that they are not real thoughts
simply an imitation, following the machine learning algorithms it is programmed with
now you could argue human beings are also machines limited by the scripts of our dna
but that’s a different conversation altogether, and whether or not you believe in the concept of a soul or not
but that gets into religion territory that we should probably not enter on this forum
your brain is essentially an Al that self-assembled using machine learning and propagation over the course of a billion years
i dont personally see how thats different
more sophisticated? for sure
fundamentally different? meh
And do you think there isn’t a point in which the two would be indistinct from eachother?
im probably in the vast minority that believes in souls but also believes Al have souls
not gonna argue about any of that tho
very similar in concept but not the same in my opinion
for an ai to have a soul it would have to deviate from it’s parameters imo
which i dont think has ever occured yet
