Uh you would know by understanding mahjong which you do not. This is really not a beginner friendly variant

OK so if I had this hand
111m, 22m, 123p, 456p, 78p
Then I have 3 complete melds (111 of same suit, 123 of same suit, 456 of same suit), one pair (22 of same suit). I would need one more meld to complete the hand, so I would need either 6p (to make 678p) or 9p (to make 789p)

It’s man (the characters suit) and pin (the circles suit). They’re like card suits basically
