oo i see
sushi
Well we could try it i guess lol - could be a decent experiment
Iâd have to silence the old account though yeah
Iâve had to ask a lot of people to make new accounts recently and it makes me sad
Discourse sucks
whats the bug
i remember my name got changed on the old forum
We could also anonymize the account if wanted, like we did with Anstreimâs old account
Makes the username something like Anon[random string of numbers] and doesnât cause bugs iirc. The account canât be used anymore though
Past and future quotes sometimes show as coming from nobody (or the wrong person), old notifications/pings are inaccessible sometimes, and the username can never be used again by anybody
did this happen on the old site too
i never noticed it when mine was changed
theres still a ton of broken quotes on the old archive because alice and chloe swapped names for a bit
Yeah
I think the bugs mainly occur when anybody with a username has the string of the old username (so if we changed your name to Arcy, and someone made a new account like Arctic2), thatâs when things get messed up
Yeah its really annoying lmao
Thanks arete
With Eliza we took a gamble because i could just prevent people from using the old username, because nobody will ever go by that unless theyâre a transphobic troll
And we deemed it necessary enough to change
well that seems a bit more conducive to breaking things than just one person having a username changed
how big does the string need to be though
Shrug
Likely anything that contains âArcticâ
I still donât fully know what causes the bugs so we disallow name changes as a âbetter safe than sorryâ unless itâs necessary, like a deadname or something that doxxes
I donât think itâs too much to ask to have people make a new account, but if everyone REALLY wants the option to change their username for less serious reasons i suppose we could allow it - i just expect annoying bugs to pop up and iâd rather just avoid that entirely
Too real
Rip ArcticResolve
smart choice
now the greatly coveted username âotterpopd2â is still available
