skynet may be powerful but it’s not winning against my power hose

on one hand if ai continues to improve it’s going to become smarter than a person eventually
on the other hand i’ve seen chatgpt

and most of all you have to somehow think that technology follows an exponential curve because, like, some guy put the number of transistors on a graph and that graph starts in 1740 for some reason

why didn’t they just soak the terminator in water
are they stupid

i’ve done enough historical research to tell you that technology just does not work the way that bizarre libertarians tell you it does, and quite frankkly, I barely know anything in terms of actual analysis, I’ve just seen a lot of data to suggest that

i am relatively sure a lot of people are mistaking a bell curve for exponential growth

also a majority of that bell curve was when everyone was fucking murdering eachother

i’m rejecting the whole nature of the graph in the first place
numbers are only helpful if we have means to apply those numbers and we emphatically do not

if you decide to perform statistics on a field which doesn’t really have good metrics yet, like, say, machine learning and artificial itnelligence, of course they’re going to spit out whatever numbers you want, it’s very easy to manipulate data that doesn’t mean anything

this is also the case with psychology by the way. do not look up how abysmal the statistics in a lot of the most influential psych papers are

i am aware psychologists are mostly shams

i had to learn about Projection Freud

i am a firm believer in technological progress, and a firm materialist, but I think the advancement of technology is too interlinked with the entire rest of history for us to be able to do anything approaching statistical predictions regarding it

most of all, i greatly resent the whole of intelligence being reduced to computation, because i know for a fact that’s not the case

i’m smarter than a computer because i don’t completely shit myself and die if a programmer forgot to include a bounds check on something

creates a theory about everyone being attracted to their mother
names it after the guy who gouged his eyes out after realizing he was in a relationship with his mother

it doesn’t matter if the computer can do more computations per second than me if its’ thought processes are inherently rigid, and you can’t simulate the complexity of sentience by simply making something complex - it has to be intelligent as well!

my first listening to every radiohead album has been huh. thats like. okay. i can tell its really good i understand why but i dont think its for me.
then i go like huh. i kinda want to give it another go. okay maybe another. i like this bit alot. actually i like this bit alot. this is the greatest album ever made actually

currently in the middle of this process with Kid A

what i find insulting about the current “Artificial Intelligence” trend is that there seems to be an active effort to not understand the processes underlying the models, and to instead place those models further and further within a black box

because we don’t understand the nature of conscious intelligence, so therefore anything we don’t understand must be conscious intelligence. it’s trying to create skynet through means of object impermanence

actually neural networks are in black boxes because they generally aren’t understandable, not by choice lel
