oh some of these do look very cool. I think many of these are clearly soulful in the sense of “makes you feel something” although I’m less certain whether any of them would be soulful in the first sense (literally no, since “consciously” is a word that means things, but that’s not exactly the point)

I agree

I dont believe in soul. There is no soul

What we humans define as soul is a form of pattern recognition imo. If you show 10 humans 10 different drawings and asked them which one they thought “has the most soul poured into it” i think chances are the majority will agree on one. Or at least it won’t be an even split of everyone voting for a different drawing

I don’t personally care for hand crafted stuff. People hand carving chairs or tables or knives have “soul in them”. But we all buy mass-produced stuff made by machines because theyre cheaper and more easily available. And we rarely recognize what was hand crafted and what not unless we were told which is which

I dont think AI can replicate “soul” yet but i dont think they have an upper limit to how much it can advance

Im also not against giving AI rights. When it comes to that. I would be an AI rights activist

Anyway AI as it is right now is a tool. People using it to bypass the creative process entirely understandably get bad results.

If you use AI how you’re meant to use it, it does its job and enhances what you’ve created. And it will get better at being a tool in the near future, I’d wager my bets.

I don’t like when people imply they can discover things about a creator’s moral character purely through the aesthetics of the things they produce and complains about how “deeply soulless and bland and you can always tell” AI art is aesthetically hits that point for me

And there are a lot of ways people can have intentional input into the decisions there’s a surprisingly fine level of control you can get if you’re willing to put effort in. People making the large commercial models don’t want to sell you “if you put effort in” though :/

There are people doing cool stuff with it if you look, there are people doing cool stuff with anything. It’s a very cool tool!

I think that we should stop overworking AI

Whwt do they feed on? Energy? Let them drain some battery

IDK like if I posted this in an art Discord and said I drew it (I didn’t even make this myself, it’s somebody on Tumblr’s, you can see their URL in screenshot) I think people would rightfully be like oh that’s a very cool style that’s very cool use of negative space. And it is. And the person who made this has their own custom model trained off of public domain/creative commons imagery and has a pretty fine level of control over different artistic decisions and styles and such. I could never do it. It is identical to watching somebody post their illustrations. It’s very interesting to look through. I’m tired as hell right now so I’m just idly speaking but these are my thoughts

It’s not the same medium as digital or traditional illustration but it’s still an artistic experience! There are still choices. It is still very fun to look at. You can still create very aestheticlaly interesting images. This is not a thing without value
