Cookie Thread Act 4 (Act 5): The Fifth One

as a martial you’re definitely taking either the pam/gwm or xbe/ss routes
then you need to fit in res wis at some point
you probably want lucky for saves
and alert can help with gimmicky rogue assassin stuff

you being interested in football is shocking to me

I don’t see a way to fit it in
Maybe Fighter 11 / other stuff x can make it work

feats at 1 / 4 / 6 / 8
6 or 8 since damage feats online first helps a lot more

honestly sentinel is best on a rogue
they get an additional ASI at 10 and they really don’t have any necessary feats other than maybe XBE/SS if you want to go that route

yeah sure it’s not going to activate much but when it does that’s very good for you and it’s pretty much the only way to get a reaction attack without specific features from other players or multiclassing on your end

you get 0 utility out of the first feature in that case which is funny as fuck

i think overall in DND the best way of playing it is to put mechanics SECOND. like yeah u can build this op buidl by multiclassing 8 different times and taking these feats n stuff like that but at the end of the day you should be trying to build a story with your character

i’m aware there are more horrifying things you can do
especially as a sorcerer
i just think it’s dumb to be able to match the heaviest armor by having a lot of dexterity (theoretically you can have more but there’s not a lot of ways for humans to raise stats above 20 and none of them have any business raising the dex limit on a fucking sorcerer)

well its not like you’re going to be taking a lot of damage if nothing can hit you

I completely agree
You’re going to be spending most of the time during the campaign playing your character’s story

If you’re doing a dungeon crawl though I totally think it’s valid to put mechanics first

that’s the point of dnd but it’s also a fun pastime to break down every single way you could fuck up the game’s balancing in an extremely violent manner

I want a cat friendly alternative

I think being a bit of a munchkin (only a bit) is fun and helps fulfill the power fantasy of being a badass hero if that’s what you’re going for. I think it’s pretty easy to justify powerful feats with most characters and they aren’t going to detract from the roleplaying/character drama experience. (This is another point in Lucky’s favor because it’s so easy to just say your character is lucky!) I have some distaste for blatant multiclassing with no consideration for narrative, or just general gamesmanship e.g. coffeelock. That’s obviously fine if that’s the gameplay experience the table wants, but I always try to take feats that maximize whatever my character wants to do. Like my last sorcerer I was going to play with a lightning/fire damage theme so I spent a lot of time thinking about what feats were going to maximize my damage with that self-imposed restriction in mind, and something like Elemental Adept allowing her to ignore resistances to a damage type was both useful and flavorful.

ya ofc, but id say MOSt of the time youre arent just doing a dungeon crawl, depends on the group ofc

i mean im not saying “dont be a powerful character” but I think characters which are clearly priotizing mechanics and combat effectiveness over the actual character’s goals and depth don’t work very well and aren’t a ton of fun to play with

i think feats which work into ur character are especially cool, like sasha who’s whole thing was being a dual wielder and so I made her human (since she was based off sasha amphibia) and had ehr start with that feat, i think stuff like that is SUPER cool
