do I have any consistencies in my messages?

you are very iconic

I mean you’ve got a consistent tone I could probably figure out “the rules” for capitalisation/punctuation if I put time into imitating it but nothing that stands out

I guess the point I was trying to make is “capability is a function of motivation, they are only ‘capable of focusing so much and memorizing stuff’ because they are able to feel motivated to do it, and it’s much easier to be motivated on something with immediate feedback and rewards than it is something with intangible far-off benefits”

And focus and memorisation also aren’t the only things that careers like law and medicine test you on - if you have skills there and not in the, like, other shit you have to do for such careers, you’re going to have a harder time.

And also a lot of the people doing this are in law and medicine and do this as a hobby

I am in the strictest sense capable of spending 12 hours a day doing homework and studying instead of spending that much time playing Civ but I’m not motivated to do it because there’s less immediate, like, feedback and benefit, if I tried I would go crazy, I just can’t.

i dont know the work flow for studying for quiz bowl, but from that youtube tutorial i linked, the guy talked about studying a ton. he opened like 10 different sites and started talking all about taking notes and stuff. the competition itself is gamified and its very easy to feel motivated to win a game. the studying for it seems far-off to me. i dont know how they do it, but i imagined them as studying for hundreds of hours before they start playing quiz bowl games. thats the part that seemed foreign to me. the actual studying didnt seem gamified, they just sit down and study like u’d do for school. i dont see myself studying for lots of hours about mafia (analyzing games and theory and such), or other games or hobbies i have. again, i dont condemn them for doing that, i was speaking from my own pov. maybe i didnt make that clear but it was a off hand comment i didnt anticipate this being a big deal for you

tbf that guy in particular was a sweat in hs who if you look at his youtube channel also has 30 different college application videos. he’s an outlier

i don’t actually know what he ended up doing in college but i think he was less sweaty? or at least he’s not one of the college quizbowl names i think of whereas he was a top high school player

I don’t think you’re condemning anything I just think you kinda don’t get it

It’s not that big a deal to me
