FE3H thoughts that aren't just actual Edelgard apologetics/simping
Edelgard is absolutely a flawed character and makes some alliances that don’t super make sense, and some of her decisions are incoherent for the sake of making her a villain. However, SHE’S FUCKING RIGHT about the fundamental issues in the society and I’ve never seen a character just look directly into the camera and be like “isn’t what Rhea had us do fucked up, actually?” Like yes queen the extrajudicial executions for heresy we just did unquestioningly were fucked up. Whoa, yeah bestie eugenics are bad??? Are you free later?
I think the igniting a war part is one of the least reprehensible things Edelgard does because a system where the church is deeply ingrained into each major faction’s government, happily rewards the oppressor class as long as they remain loyal, ignores the eugenics and pain of the oppressed, and orders child soldiers to kill dissenters without a moment’s hesitation is not one that can be easily reformed through diplomacy. Edelgard keeps nearly all of her friends out of her rebellious plans in part because if it all goes sideways, they’ll probably be killed. She does not value her own life (because she does not expect to live to see 30 or something), and doesn’t think she can afford to take any long term path because she’ll die before she can see it through. Edelgard is absolutely not without fault in all routes, clearly, but to say that she’s just stupid or crazy or insane is myopic and misunderstands her deeply. We love a queen who wants to usher in systemic change though.
