For me it’s hard to uncouple it from any racial undertones. Idk, I grew up in an area where lynchings happened, where we were taught about it in school, where right next to my moms hair place there was a memorial for the site of a triple lynching.
I still used the word because it didnt make me uncomfortable, but I think for me it’s a word that already irrevocably has that connotation. maybe for you it doesnt. but if I will always see that word in such a context, I think it’s fair to assume that others might and would be a bit uncomfortable about it
so to me, it’s an outdated word primarily associated with racial killings and should just, idunno, be used less.
