i would consider ai likely for my entire lifespan unless there is some insane revolutionary idea more comparable to a dog than a person

This is just the first instnace I could think of involving a new technology skyrocketing advancement despite immense historical precedent to the contrary
Like, as far as Iām aware thereās ways in which artificial intelligence can meaningfully ālearn from unexpected situationsā even now, though in very restricted ways - you teach it to navigate a bunch of Mario levels and it can do a new one - obviously this is not the same as having human-level ability to react to unpredictable situations but I feel like the base is there. And a lifetime is a long while of research

yeah literally incomprehensible. same with stuff with recognising objects in an image. i remember seeing something where one was analysed and it starts falling out of our understanding very quickly. an edge of an edge is a corner but what is an edge of an edge of an edge of an edge because its looking for those and clearly it fucking works
