“Ah, that’s disappointing…” The Kitsune murmured as she looked down at the despair present in the streets. “And this group had so much potential, too. Not one, but two potential candidates…” She sighed. “Lost to internal struggle and strife. Such a disappointment that even my darling protégé fell to it, too.” The fox woman sounded more annoyed than disappointed, to be honest.

She snapped her fingers, and the beginnings of shimmering violet flames began to burst up from the ground, consuming rock and melting it into magma in moments. It began to creep towards the people in the area, and, as it did, the Kitsune looked around. She saw the massive lake, the cobbled street, the grand temple… the empty plots of land waiting, just begging for instructions to form, to build, to be molded into small worlds of excitement and danger.

The Kitsune closed her eyes shut tightly, shaking herself as she frowned. Opening them again, she turned back towards the purple fire, and stared at the people who had survived so long in the land of chaos before falling to themselves, their own disheartened nature being their ultimate downfall, and sighed again.

She snapped her fingers, and 16 people vaporized into small, blue cubes, which then turned into even smaller cubes, eventually being small enough to be considered dust, which became light enough to blow away on the wind. The Kitsune frowned and looked around, noting where the land simply cut off in the dimension, shaking her head in mild amusement. “A world, so large, yet so small.” She snapped her fingers again, and a large missile appeared from the air, beginning its decent towards the ground, breaking through the layer of clouds to reveal only inky blackness behind it.

The Kitsune turned away from the plane, shaking her head again. “I will have to find a new group, once again. I will not give up hope. One day… One day, I will find someone strong enough to take my place.” As she finished the sentence, she coughed, then rolled her eyes. “Soon.”

Golden particles swam around her in a helix pattern before collapsing in on themselves, taking the magical fox with it, leaving naught but an empty dimension filled, three seconds later, with a mushroom cloud.

Elsewhere, 20 pairs of eyes opened.

She’s won in the one fate she had control over. Her own life. Is this what you wanted?

"I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me.”
