Purgatory is an open setup designed by Elscouta and Bicephalous Bob.
Setup found here.

Rules:

  1. Follow the Forum Game Rules.
  2. Post a minimum of 10 game related posts per active phase.
  3. Fail to heed the former rules more than twice, and you will be subbed out or modkilled.
  4. Hosts have the privilege to add and/or remove rules in the future, except the first rule.

General Mechanics:

  • This is an open setup. There are 2N Town Vanilla, and N Mafia Goon. (N ≥ 3)
  • Instead of day and night, phases alternate between Heaven and Hell. The game starts with a Hell phase. All phases have 24-hour deadlines.
  • After each Heaven phase, there will be a 24 hour resting period.
  • During the Heaven phase, living players vote to send one player to ascend to Heaven. During the Hell phase, living players vote to descend one player to Hell.
  • “Sending nobody” is not an option. If nobody is voted at all, then “a random player will be sent whose departure will benefit the Mafia faction”. I.e., Town during Hell Phase, and Mafia during Heaven Phase.
  • Town members win if the majority of the Mafia members are sent to Hell. Mafia members win if the majority of the Mafia members are sent to Heaven.
  • Alignment is not revealed upon being sent to Heaven or Hell.
  • All Mafia members, whether alive or sent away, can talk to each other at all times in their designated Mafia Discord Server.
  • All players sent to Hell are sent to the designated Spectator Discord Server. All players sent to Heaven are sent to a separate Martyr Discord Server.
  • When ≤50% of the living players are Mafia members, a Judgment Day occurs, and all living players lose the ability to vote. The Martyrs privately vote in the Martyr Channel to send a living player to Hell. If the sent player is a Town member, the Mafia members win. Otherwise, the game moves on to Hell phase.
  • Ascension and descension are determined by plurality and majority. Ties will be resolved by choosing a random player in the tie.

Game alternates between 2 types of phases. During Heaven Phase you vote to send somebody to heaven (if you are town you want this to be a villager), during Hell Phase you vote to send somebody to hell (if you are town you want this to be a wolf). Wolves win when the majority of wolves are in heaven, town wins when the majority of wolves are in hell

Basically it swaps between vote-for-town mafia and vote-for-wolves mafia. And there’s no night phases

There used to be none, so I added this in consideration to the players’ feedback from the last Purgatory:

That’s rest! Night is when people do actions and die. There’s no actions and dying

Fair enough.
