The first search result after the AI overview for me stated it was 2500! From my perspective, you had blatantly outed yourself as not having scrolled past the AI overview! It appears it was a (presumably regional) difference between our search results, but I had no way of knowing that!

It is enabled by default! And I don’t turn it off because I don’t usually look things up on mobile (I have to do a captcha every single time), and scrolling past it isn’t a bother anyway!

The reference you provided showed both the shortened and full postcount in the same message so even if the geological difference wasn’t a variable and I had reviewed it precisely as you’d expected, I would’ve still seen the full length!

That review is only seen after searching “dream of the red chamber page count” - if you search for “dream of the red chamber length”, as I initially did, you see 900 only! I thought you had used the latter search term!

I searched “length” before you explicitly mentioned “pages”, when I was talking about its length relative to War and Peace, and then “page count” once you mentioned a triology of a specific page length. So I did still search page count… but still
