FOL MUSIC LEAGUE VII - THE MAJOR ARCANA - A POST MORTEM
-Why the Major Arcana as the theme?
Theres two answers to this, both equally true
The first is i just think the major arcana is neat. Nothing more nothing less, i find it an interest framework to create things around.
The second is that the Major Arcana is something i can pull strong parallels with the Fool’s Journey (which the cards represent) and my own personal experiences in life. I recently went through a major life change which in turn led to me returning to FOL after a long absence and I personally enjoyed music league as one of the things to help myself reintegrate into the community
-Why Choose “The Fool” as the opening category and why choose that criteria?
I chose The Fool as it is the beginning of the cycle of the Major Arcana. Another thing I wanted people to do this league was to look at songs in the wider context of the albums they appear on. While this is limiting to people wanting to submit songs that are just singles and not part of a larger cohesive project.
-Why Choose “The Lovers” as the second category and why choose that criteria
While I initially envisioned making each category relate to the purpose the song serves in a wider narrative on an album I felt it would be too restrictive forcing people to use concept albums/make large reaches . Thus why i chose The Lovers and the very simple task of choosing a love song. I was also slightly hoping people would see “love song” and see past the obvious of romantic love and go down different routes (kinda like how i did with turning in “Hey Mama” for this cat) but alas it was all romantic love sans me. Still overall happy with how the cat turned out with song solection
-Why Choose “Death” as the third category and why choose that criteria?
Death is the middle part of the cycle of the Major Arcana. A card that heavily represents transitions. I decided to make this a more introspective category and while i left it open for people to turn in song that represent turning points in an album I also opened it to songs that related to people on a personal level that they listened to alot in a pivotal moment in their life (thus my “I Really Want To Stay At Your House” sub here). I was positively thrilled with how this cat turned out, most people did turn in a song personally meaningful and i was thrilled to listen to every single one of them (even if i did kinda phone it in with voting due to the flu lol soz).
Why Choose “The Tower” as the fourth category and why choose that criteria
I wanted to see what fucking ear destroying shit yall would turn in and it succeeded massively. This was my dedicated sadism category :)
Why Choose “The World” as the final category and why choose that criteria
The mirror to The Fool I decided to make it literally the inverse and once again make people think in the wider scope of an album. While i can’t say how it turnt out quite yet I am excited to see what all y’all will turn in.
btw if ML took youtube links i woulda turnt this in for the cat. idk what im planning on turning in rn but i’ll find something I enjoy.

Yeah, I am sorry guys, I didn’t want to score anyone without giving at least a listen, but I wasn’t really in the mood for listening for any songs in the last few weeks. (Excruating pain and very high fever both tends to have making these symptomps.)
