Yeah, I think you’re right. It’s kind of like a ballista, but a smaller version the gnomes developed. And looks like they can adjust the aim better.

You marvel at the ingenuity the gnomes use to create different kinds of cannonlike projectile weapons — “chunk throwers,” the head gnome engineer calls them. He’s been working on such devices all his life and has finally achieved an amazing reliability of approximately 26.52 per cent.
“You mean that you can hit your target only one-fourth of the time?” you ask, astounded.
“Oh,no,there’sonlyaone-in-fourchancethatthedevicewillexplodewhenyouigniteit.” Before you can react to that bit of news, he goes on: “Hey, I know why you’re here, and one of these things could really help in the battle. Why don’t you test one out—of course there’s only one working right now, but you really ought to try it.”
Options: If you agree to test one chunk thrower that works, anticipating that you’ll get a very helpful device for the final battle, test it out. If not, you thank the gnome, who turns away, disgruntled at your lack of interest, and return to the Armory.

cant we have one of the gnomes test it
maybe we want to check everything else in the room first before blowing ourselves up
and then come back to whatever we think is most useful and least likely to kill us
probably like, take a suit of armor first before tampering with explosives
yeah we got time, imp is dead, we can actually explore everything and get what we need
