I’ve always head-canoned the Blue Dragon as being supporters of a deposed king desperately trying to return to power, so framing it in the idea of “stars are passed souls watching over us, and we use their deaths to justify our slaughter” feels in line with the stronger flavor angle you seem to be taking with this setup.
