I mean, they didn’t share a chat. And they didn’t know each other as town.
But their roles work in tandem. Like a broken telephone line. They receive each other’s partial results.
I personally haven’t seen anything like this be implemented as a duo of town and mafia role. Definitely not in a small game like this of 15 players, maybe in a mash but not in a small / normal game. Have you guys seen anything like that?
And I have seen it implemented plenty of times as a duo of town / town roles. In FAM4 for instance mine and arctic’s roles worked like that

I have strong townreads and everybody so somebody has to be lower. I elected catbae. On an absolute scale I think catbae is very towny. On a relative scale, compared to others, I decided to place him lower

It give us more time to use the investigative roles, without losing any misexe, and the result of my backlash would be better discovered via town, before me being chopped as the losing move. (I don’t want to claim this part until it gets relevant, but I would rather get chopped at F5 than F4, (or F3).
Childe isn’t an investigative role, his role doesn’t do anything, so chopping him now as opposed to tomorrow doesn’t take away from town’s mech resources
If it gets to f4 the townies should consider whether to no-exe or not. Mafia could have an extra kill, or there could be 3p or lost wolf
People practically never no-exe before the final possible moment
