This is non-negotiable. You cannot allow people to fake anything in a mafia game that they would not be allowed to do for real, otherwise the enforcement of the rules itself becomes meta-able. It’s equivalent to allowing heavy AtE from town and not from wolves.

it can be a good strategical decision but it also sets up a precedent of being allowed to do rhst which makes it far harder to deal with people actually gamethrowing

If you say “the wolfteam is me, Garfooled, and Arctic”, and you’re telling the truth, that’s gamethrowing and you should be punished for it. Generally very publicly.
If you say “the wolfteam is me, Garfooled, and Arctic”, and you’re lying, and you’re not punished for it, people can go “well they would’ve gotten punished if it were true, so the wolfteam cannot be me, Garfooled, and Arctic”.
