I’m not exactly sure what the difference you’re describing here is. But to me, if someone made a gross error in reading me previously as wolf when I was a villager, I would quite easily mention it as a reason to discredit their read. I mean no reason not too right? And it works quite well at increasing doubt.

I think they thought I was just purely insulting their play.

They didn’t attempt to do it in response to a scumread though (in which case I’d agree with you) and I think that a townie being preemptively upset at someone for not being able to read them correctly is much more likely than a wolf attempting to discredit italy’s slot. especially the way it was handled didn’t seem like an attempt to discredit
I guess what I’m trying to get at is I think a wolf posting in thread early and trying to fit in doesn’t just simply have that thought come to them with no prompting
