The marioniete isn’t an outsider
From my understanding, a marioniete does not affect outsider count because a marioniete is an evil
this is true in text/forum games
for irl play though you need to give the marionette a blue token, and you need to have them sat next to the demon
which is difficult when people get their roles from pulling out of a bag
you cant know beforehand which role the marionette thinks they are

if the Demon neighbours the 2 Outsiders in a 12p game and an Outsider becomes the Marionette, you only have 1 real Outsider

You just say “sure, that’s cool. I won’t tell you my role but I’ll do what anyone else would do. Who’s the Minion?”
Go up to them. “Is there a Damsel?”
This is why I lie to my Marionettes. They can lose with me unexpectedly.
(Have never played with a Marionette as the Demon.)
