So when Telltale was going through liquidization. 2 people who never has anything to do with the original Telltale Games formed a company.
So they wanted to buy the assets and name but there was a lot of legal shit. Eventually a bunch of games industry names like Geoff Keighley gave them money they got the rights and they are operating as Telltale Games.
So technically this company has nothing to do with the original TTG, except that they own some of the properties and the company name and logos and trademarks.
I do think they brought back some of the original team but they are operating at a fraction of the size TTG did. Which is honestly really smart.
Most of the original TTG devs and writers were hired by Skybound to finish the walking dead final season.
The new TTG studio lost all the rights to The Walking Dead, Borderlands, Game of Thrones and Stranger Things. Probably Jurassic Park as well.
But that’s also a good thing.
The original TTG failed because they expanded far too quickly. They hired too many people and bought too many licenses and hemorrhaged money trying to make 3 - 5 games at a time. The new one is small and focused. One game at a time. 30 employees. Its good stuff business wise and I am pretty sure they hired back some of the original team so it will probably feel the same but basically you should think of it as a completely new company.
And you should know that like the New Tales from the Borderlands game, that wasn’t TTG. They don’t own that anymore Gearbox did that. Skybound did most of the walking dead final season. Ect.
Oh also because the new TTG is in no way associated with the old TTG despite having the same name and likeness they didn’t have to pay any of the debts the old company incurred or pay the employees of the old company that stopped getting paid so that’s cool ig.
