In fact, the “survive a killing blow once” mechanic kind of discourages that idea.

There’s no worse feeling than being one-shot, and this mechanic should hopefully inspire risk and death. “I can tank this blow and be on 1 HP, and then I’ll heal.”

They’d still be in a pit of spikes. They’d need to spend an action climbing out, and even then they’re on one hp.
Assuming it’s even an instant-kill, which is debatable.

Just poison someone so they will still die if they can’t find a cure to it from the damage tick.

They find a tree, eat a green leaf because it’s green, not realising it’s just a normal tree.
