All rolecards:

Luminary (@Jarek)

The Luminary, Leader of the Unshackled

The Azure Dragoon is corrupt. You can feel it every time someone is strung up for lèse-majesté, every time a child goes hungry because the Lord hoards taxes for himself, every time a trial is decided by the weight of the Lord’s thumb on the scales. The Azure Dragoon is corrupt, and the whole kingdom cries out in agony.

You don’t understand how others can’t see it too.

You thought at first that you would meet the same fate as every reformer before you. But no matter how they call for your blood, their weapons glance harmlessly off your skin.

They have to see the light. You can show them the light, but it will take time.

You are the Luminary, the head of the Unshackled. You have access to the following effects:

  • Each night, beginning Night 1, you must induct another player into the Unshackled.
  • If you are ever eliminated, you will survive and the last player who voted you will die in your place.
  • If another member of the Unshackled is eliminated, you and all members of the Unshackled die and lose the game.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Banker/The Debtor (@Ashlyn)

The Banker

There are those who would accuse you of usury, but the way you see it, you’re simply providing a needed service. The kingdom would scarce function without a way to safeguard money for the future, or safeguard the present with a loan, and generations of rulers have understood this fact well.

You’ve always been willing to cut the Lord a bit of a bargain, but now he’s started to abuse that trust. He borrows money, but doesn’t pay it back on time, or at all. Frankly, you’re starting to run short on funds. But you can’t just cut him off now, not without sacrificing any chance of seeing your money again. And he’s above the law, so you can hardly take him to court…

You are the Banker, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Debtor

“When you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.”

This sentence should’ve been obvious, but it was enough to change your life. Of course you should stop being loyal to the Lord; if he can’t even keep his bargains, how can you trust him to do any better in the future? What you really need is to replace him with an honest, fair-dealing sort of person.

And with the way that light bore into your eyes, past all your muddled contradictions and into your very soul, you think they’ll be able to find someone.

You are the Debtor, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Woodsman/The Houndmaster (@Marluxion)

The Woodsman

You’d just as well skip all this politicking. What matters aren’t the empty promises of the nobility, but the hard truths of reality: will you have enough food to survive the winter? Will your house be warm? Will you be able to see the chirurgeon if you need to?

Most of the people here have never really had to worry about that sort of thing, the Lord among them. But even so, you’ve heard there’s some sort of conspiracy around here, and you’ve never found conspiracies to be good for your survival prospects.

Also, you have a dog. She’s a good girl.

You are the Woodsman, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Houndmaster

Life isn’t that complicated. You hunt for your food, you cut wood for your fire, you take care of your dog.

But the Lord’s decided your dog is too special, declared the dog his own possession. If he were just threatening you, well, what else can you expect – but your dog? You can’t let that stand.

You’ve never been one for conspiracies, but if the conspiracy is willing to let you and Bona stick together, that makes the choice pretty easy.

You are the Houndmaster, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Guildmaster/The Foreman (@Ruby)

The Guildmaster

Your guild is dedicated to the pursuit of Excellence in your art, and you’ve never seen a reason not to extend that to your entire life. You would never dare to make a subpar product; why make a subpar choice?

But the court is different. If your work as a blacksmith is subpar, that will be reflected in the poor quality of your craft. No one here is thinking in those terms, none of them have ever seen their failures reflected in a useless hunk of metal that was supposed to be a horseshoe. They’re caught up in their silly social games, in who is respected and honored, that they can’t help but lose sight of the reality beneath.

You are the Guildmaster, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Foreman

The Luminary doesn’t understand it quite like you, but – you think, maybe, they do a little.

In hindsight this shouldn’t be surprising. If their actions weren’t concretely rooted in the harsh lessons of reality, they surely would have been caught out long ago. But somehow, from every rumor you’d heard, you’d assumed they were just another idealist more concerned with their own reputation than with whether any of their ideas would actually work.

Their plan is going to work; you’ll make sure of that.

You are the Foreman, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Dame/The Duchess (@Silviu200530)

The Dame

You are the only one here who really knows your father.

The rest might think they do, but they only see the picture he chooses to present to them. Your whole family is like that, and you are no exception; you’ve been trained since birth to fill your role, and you’ve risen to it with grace and poise.

You’re here to carry out your role, to be loyal and obedient and true. It’s what you’ve always done; why would you stop now?

You are the Dame, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Duchess

You are the only one here who really knows your father.

The others accuse him of cruelty or tyranny, dishonesty or avarice. They’re not wrong, exactly, but they’re not exactly right either.

You can see it now, the perfect daughter he molded you into. Every noblefamily does it, of course, trains their children to do exactly what will leave their family better off and nothing else, but it’s different when he does it. He would sell all of you out for his own benefit, that much you’re sure of.

You’re – supposed to be Unshackled, now. The name feels ironic on your tongue; you’re not sure you could break your shackles even if you wanted to. But you can remold them, be the person you were supposed to be for a cause you were never supposed to fight for.

Maybe someday, everyone else will see what you do.

You are the Duchess, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Spy/The Spotter (@Creature)

The Spy

You spend most of your time at other courts, covertly reporting back to your Lord on their operations. But he’s called you home, now, for you know more of shadowy conspiracies than anyone else in the court.

Yet for all the time you’ve spent hiding your true intentions, you’ve never felt a greater need to hide yourself than here. The Lord is capricious, and though you owe him your loyalty you can’t bring yourself to feel actual respect for him, certainly not enough respect to let on your true feelings.

So you put on the disguise of an unquestioningly loyal agent, and rest safe in the assurance that the Lord isn’t clever enough to notice.

You are the Spy, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Spotter

There’s a sense in which you’ve spent your whole life hiding. At other courts, you hide your true identity. At home, you hide from the whims of the Lord.

Standing in the Light of the Luminary is the first time in almost thirty years when you felt like you didn’t have to hide, which is fortunate, since it’s not like you could hide your soul from them anyways. All the secrets you’ve spent so long desperately trying to conceal came spilling out at once, every lie you told, every truth you bit back.

You hate it, you hate not having those disguises you’d come to rely on, but the Luminary is right, you can’t deny that either. So you’ll work for them, no matter how much it hurts, and – maybe you’ll hate it less once you don’t have to hide from everyone else at court.

You are the Spotter, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Fortuneteller/The Clairvoyant (@Leafia)

The Fortuneteller

The threads of fate used to be easy to see, the paths people would walk as predictable as the motion of the planets. You loyally helped the Lord foresee what would come, for even when his actions led to destruction you could never see any other way.

But lately, something’s been clouding your forecasts, a light so bright that you can’t see anything else, like staring directly at the sun. You’re trying to catch your balance, but every time you think you’ve seen another path, you come back to the blinding, burning light.

You are the Fortuneteller, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Clairvoyant

Everything is starkly clear now, in a way it never was even when the future was as clear as the world in front of you. You can see so many branching paths before you, some where the Lord keeps his hold on your kingdom, others where he dies, is overthrown, is exiled.

But no matter which path you choose to walk down, you know it will be better to walk side-by-side with the Luminary, taking their goals as your own.

You are the Clairvoyant, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Butler/The Servant (@Hazardwaste)

The Butler

You are the Lord’s most trusted manservant, the only person he still allows into his personal chambers. You fulfill his every request, and he trusts you with his deepest secrets.

Yet although you would never question an order, his orders have gotten … stranger and stranger, ever since you took this job. He used to ask for fine towels, hearth-heated baths; now he asks you to slip herbs you’ve never seen before into his guest’s wine.

And every time he asks you to join him for a cup, you can’t help but wonder what’s in it.

You are the Butler, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Servant

You are still a servant to the Lord, in the sense of being one that serves him. Though you’ve seen the truth now, you know that you must pretend to be loyal and obedient, even as every “Yes, Your Lordship” burns in your throat and your soul cries out every time you help one of his plans.

But you bide your time, day by day, watching and waiting for the moment when you will get the chance to slip one of the same herbs into his wine as he’s had you slip into so many others.

You are the Servant, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Squire/The Page (@Gorta)

The Squire

The others call you a child, say that at a mere fourteen years you couldn’t hope to contribute. But you know they’re wrong. You know that if you’re attentive and diligent and hard-working and loyal, you can rise through the ranks no matter how young you are.

Plus, now you have a great opportunity to prove yourself! If you can just figure out who’s behind the secret conspiracy in the castle, you can finally prove that you’re worthy of being considered an adult, too! It shouldn’t be that hard, right?

You are the Squire, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Page

Wow. It turns out there are a lot of things you hadn’t known!

The Lord’s been in power for longer than you’ve been alive, and you hadn’t known how he came to power, you hadn’t heard about half the people he’d sentenced to death, you hadn’t heard about how he sent some of his own soldiers to quell a riot.

No one’s ever been willing to tell you about that sort of thing, it’s always been sideways glances and ‘maybe when you’re older.’ But the Luminary isn’t like that, they said you deserved to know, and then told you everything, and then said that even if you’re a kid, you can still work with them.

Compared to how everyone else you’ve ever known has treated you, the choice is easy.

You are the Page, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Physician/The Herbalist (@Frostwolf103)

The Physician

“First, do no harm.”

You haven’t broken the first precept you’ve ever learned. You haven’t, you can’t have.

The Lord tells you to give a dying patient a certain herb, and – it’ll ease their suffering, they probably would have perished anyways. The Lord tells you to let someone bleed out and – it’s not doing them harm, not technically, it’s just not saving them. The Lord tells you exactly how to doctor the records, and, and, and you can’t prove you’ve hurt anyone–

a part of you whispers that it doesn’t matter anyways, you’d better stay with him now or he’ll expose you to everyone

–but of course that can’t be your real reason, that would imply that you’ve done something wrong.

You are the Physician, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Herbalist

You never wanted to hurt anyone.

The others keep telling you they understand, that it doesn’t matter now, that what matters is moving forward, and you don’t know how to understand – you never let yourself be used as a weapon, you didn’t, you wouldn’t…

But the Lord would have tried, that much is clear as daylight, and that’s enough. Your hands are clean, but if you have to stain them with the Lord’s blood you won’t quite be able to mourn it.

You are the Herbalist, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

The Paladin/The Templar (@Kiiruma)

The Paladin

You have sworn a holy oath to the gods and to the crown, pledging to pursue justice no matter what, at any cost. You’ve been fighting as the local Lord’s right hand, cutting down any who would stand in your way.

But there’s a part of you that twists in your stomach, calling you an Oathbreaker, decrying you for elevating your personal loyalty to your liegelord above the principles of your oath. You’ve been boxing away those thoughts, telling yourself they can’t be true, but no matter how hard you try to drive them away from you, they still come back, quiet whispers trying to corrupt you away from loyalty.

The Lord has told you about the Unshackled, a poison that can taint even the most virtuous people. Maybe if you eradicate the threat once and for all, you’ll finally be able to quiet these infernal doubts.

You are the Paladin, a member of the Azure Dragoon. You have no abilities but your voice and your vote.
You win when you eliminate the Unshackled.

The Templar

You are an Oathbreaker.

No matter how hard you try to make up for it, no matter how fervently you keep to your oaths now, it will always be the case that you sacrificed justice for your unwillingness to see the truth. It will always be the case that you knew, deep down inside, and suppressed that part of you as hard as you could, because you weren’t willing to see the truth.

The part of you that wants revenge on evildoers wishes you could just wipe away your sins, but you’re needed here, needed to break the Lord’s iron grip over the kingdom once and for all. To shirk your duty would be a betrayal even greater than those you’ve already committed.

You are the Templar, a member of the Unshackled. You have no abilities. You are lovers with the Luminary; if they die, you will die and lose.
You win when as many living players are aligned with the Unshackled as with the Azure Dragoon.

Well if I saw your response I would have pressed on whether or not I think you are the type to actually reaction bait like that and I don’t think so :joy_cat: no way to know for sure
