You do not have to be a role on the rolelist
this is not hard to understand
you choose an alignment from a role in the rolelist that you’re given and you choose the role from one of the cards you’re given
The cards are from the rolelist, your ability is not.

So say someone got these cards:

Survivor Vanilla
Werewolf Parrot
Alien Bloodsucker

Survivor Parrot or Bloodsucker isn’t a thing
but they can choose Survivor from Survivor Vanilla and choose Bloodsucker from Alien Bloodsucker and then they’re a Survivor Bloodsucker

This is not hard to comprehend
