oh yeah ive totally read akasaka’s work and her similarity in name to kaguya from kaguya-sama love is war is funny but i think it ultimately came independently because the pool of names drawing from japanese folklore princesses is only so large

This… is weird on many levels.
For starters, Hoshinomiya is usually written as “star field palace”, but the “field” kanji (野) is replaced with the katakana form (ノ). It’s not even the “of / from” hiragana (の), but katakana, which IIRC implies a foreign name. (E.g. English.)
Then there is her given / first name. I am a beginner in learning Japanese, but AFAIK nobody uses kanji to say Kaguya that way. Like, even the Kaguya in Kaguya Shinomiya is written in hiragana, which I assume is because it’s easier to read for children. (FYI, the Ai from Hoshino Ai is also written in hiragana.)
The Kaguya from Kaguya Hoshinomiya is written the same way as the original 名夜竹の輝夜姫 (i.e., Shining Princess of the Young Bamboo).

Never mind. I need to know the names of the other characters before I can confirm something, but if what I think is true, then this Kaguya’s family is a classy family.

Her synopsis appears to be a prime recipe for a mastermind à la Enoshima Junko, but based on this quote alone I can already tell she is never going to be evil. At least, not mastermind level. She is more likely to be the type that gets manipulated to do evil than an actual evil villainess. –and that’s is also my prediction.
I would be surprised if her morals / karma remains good / positive throughout the entire story.

Oh, Ash is not wrong because the kanji making up Hoshinomiya can be derived from Hoshino and Shinomiya. But also: They are generic kanji.
四宮 Shinomiya / Four Palaces (from Love is War)
星野 Hoshino / Star Field (from Oshi no Ko)
星野宮 Hoshinomiya / Star Field Palace (from Pumpkin Nights)

Speaking of speculations, I wonder if somebody “cut” the Hoshinomiya name. Imagine like a name board, and then someone slashed the 野 with a sword.

This would be ridiculous though. Because like, surely cutting down a name board wouldn’t change the family name from the registry?
What the heck could this family have done that warrants an error this apparent?
Based on the synopses alone, this sounds more like something that would more likely happen to the Tenshou family rather than the Hoshinomiya family.

Funny thing is: The “no” in Shinomiya isn’t even written. So there is probably a naming convention I am unaware of, other than the countless ways of reading kanji that I already have to deal with.

and actually i can just say that yeah since its literally not related to kaguya hoshinomiya’s name
be warned: the following is exclusively guesswork. I am not a native japanese speaker so take everything I say about it with a grain of salt—be sure to fact-check before repeating
often in family names that are especially old, the “no” meaning “of/from” gets dropped and implied
like if someone’s name is 木の原 kinohara (field of trees) it can sometimes in writing just turn into 木原 (tree field) despite being pronounced the same way

…I wonder what this actually entails. I know I have been using “Ultimate” in some of my setups as well -as a reference to Danganronpa- but the actual thing is 超高校級, which translates to “Super High School Level”.
The concept of Danganronpa is that the students are so expertised in a field, that they were given these titles. (E.g., Idol, Baseball Player, Gyaru/Fashionista, etc.)
Some of these are more unusual or outright odd compared to others (e.g., (Biker) Gang Leader, Gambler, Serial Killer, etc.), but ultimately they all imply they were in high school.
I wonder if the same applies in this story as well.

Although she tries to present a clean record, it’s no secret that Chen has a shady backstory. She’s the niece of Saikachi Shinonome, the probable head of an organised crime group that stands out as a power in the criminal underworld of the country—Though there’s no direct evidence, I suspect her involvement in multiple counts of arson and extortion that happened years ago. But as far as the public knows, she’s just a freelancer for designing and safety checking firework displays for events, private and public.

…I understand nothing about this character’s given name. Shinonome meaning east clouds makes sense, but the kanji that represents her given name means “bitter orange”.
橙 (the fruit) is written as “daidai”, and while I understand that kanji have different meanings depending on the surrounding context, and have different pronounciations in general, I just don’t understand this one.
I can’t even make any solid predictions about her. She feels like someone who dies early / mid-story and gets forgotten by my degrading brain.
