i think there arenāt, i think it was just to avoid writing only vanilla town, because that would imply every VT peek i get is confirmed town, so adding in mafia goon in there helps with balance a bit, to not make it too binary/townsided
but mafia roles could transform into goons after something happens, sure
nobody was a VT or a goon from the start because that would go against the definition of a role madness game

i believe hippo lied about being self resolving d1 because heās a wolf, he does wolf things, he wanted to survive. he wanted people to think āok cool, hippo is self resolving d1, i wont touch himā. he deflected the question about it twice with jokes. he later shared that his wolf meta is relying on shitposting and jokes
so - if he lied about being self resolving d1, is it really that out of the question that he, as wolf, could come up with the plan to start softclaiming protective since day 2? he is paying attention to his own thread position, both by nature of his claim, and from the way people are reading him and treating his slot with reads, heās shown this a number of times
