Post-Game Thoughts

I like open microsā€¦ Been a while since I ran a new one.

The setup has been sitting around my design files for a while.

My initial thought process was running a game that was just a repeated Day 1 over and over until one team or the other won.

I think I stuck too hard to the original Groundhog Day idea while trying to keep it small. Iā€™d be kinda interested in trying this with just a single reset, but that might not be enough at the same time. I could also see doing it with more players. A 10-3 version of this with 3 dayvigs and 1 elimination, maybe? Would have to actually do the math but I donā€™t hate that idea. That said, the game was solved mostly on behavioural analysis, which always feels good.

Finding a way to make the Vigilante not as much of an IC is also of note.

I kinda like this idea because it retains the behavioural focus while still keeping the mechanical interest and not being too quick of a 1-off.

An absolute chaos version would be to combine it with Russian Roulette:

Absolute chaos, but then again, thatā€™s pretty much all Russian Roulette Mafia games and I donā€™t know that Iā€™ve ever seen Russian Roulette on a forum rather than via Voice or Text chat ā€œLive Mafiaā€.

The math in the current version works out to:

11/15 Mafia Win Day 1
2/3 Mafia Win Day 2

And then less determinate on Day 3 because realistically, it depends on Day 2 and on whether or not town follows optimal strategies. For example, in this gameā€¦

The good D3 eliminations+kill:

Brad-Eli-Jake (2 possible teams eliminated)
Brad-Eli-min (2 possible teams eliminated)
Brad-Jake-min (2 possible teams eliminated)
Eli-Jake-min (2 possible teams eliminated)

Lesser arrangements:

Blizer-Dota-(Brad/Jake/Eli/Min)
Brad-Jake-(Blizer/Dota)
Brad-min-(Blizer/Dota)
Eli-Jake-(Blizer/Dota)
Eli-min-(Blizer/Dota)

If the D2 deaths were Brad/dota/min, it would have optimized the game for scum since:

Blizer-dota-min (2 teams)
Blizer-Eli-dota (2 teams)

Brad-Jake-??? (1 team)
Eli-Dota-(Brad/Jake) (1 team)

I think the value of behavioural analysis is potentially a bit too much for this as it is, but Iā€™m still happy with how the setup turned out as far as micros go.

Now I need to make a micro setup with multiple Dayvigs in itā€¦

Player Thoughts

  • I think Blizer and min did a good job of projecting town quickly and effectively.
  • I was expecting lower WIM from lol due to the vig, but he still participated remarkably well.
  • Poor Eli, getting shot before he really had the chance to speak.
  • Brad and Jake had a good strategy with some degree of bussing, though I think they kinda got caught up on it for a little too long. A bit more coordination in chat may have also helped.
  • I didnā€™t quite get the suspicion on dota throughout the game, but thatā€™s probably at least partly host viewpoint.

All in all, though, a solid resulting game.

Thanks again to everyone for playing! This game was low on issues of toxicity, OGI, and flaking, which is always a relief.

I felt like a boomer trying to understand even a fraction of the references. I wish visual novels didnā€™t generally bore me out of my mindā€¦

Genuinely many thanks for your help though. Meant that I could mostly focus on other life stuff at some points in this game.

ā€œOsie is a weeb, after all.ā€ :blue_heart:

If people would be interested, I can put some other open micros (Up to 9p) and minis (10-16p) into the queue. Might not all be mostly-vanilla; one of my favourite open micro series that Iā€™ve worked on was role madness (Token Power Mafia, see spoiler).

Token Power Mafia

5 Town
2 Mafia

Each player is Vanilla. At the beginning of the game, as part of each playerā€™s role PM, that player will receive one of the token items listed, associated with a 1-shot role. If a token has a slash on it, its function depends on the alignment of the player who uses it. The Mafia team shares a pool of their tokens, and learns the unused token as a fakeclaim.

Role Details
  • Motivator - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. That player may use one of their tokens as an extra Action during that Night, whether or not that token is used up.
  • Roleblocker - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. That playerā€™s action during that Night are prevented.
  • Bulletproof - The first time this game that you would be shot, you are protected from that kill.
  • Ninja - Once per game, as a Night action, you may choose to have all actions you take during that Night be unable to be seen by investigative roles.
  • Doctor - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. You protect that player from kills during that Night.
  • Redirector - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target two other players. Redirect all actions the first player takes during that Night to target the second player.
  • Tracker - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. You learn who that player targeted during that Night.
  • Strongman - Once per game, as a Night action, you may choose to have all actions you take during that Night be unable to be prevented, protected against, or redirected.
  • Watcher - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. You learn who targeted that player during that Night.
  • Item Thief - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. You steal an item from that player during that Night. You will always take Bread before a role. If you take a role, that role is only usable if it had not been used yet, or if you become motivated.
  • Commuterizer - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. Remove that player from the game for the duration of the Night phase. You gain a chat with that player as long as they are removed from the game. That player cannot target or be targeted by actions while they are removed from the game.
  • Messenger - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. Write a message for that player. The host will deliver it during that Night.
  • Bread Baker - Once per game, as a Night action, you may target another player. Give that player a Loaf of Bread. A Loaf of Bread is an item with the following actions:
    • ā€œEat Meā€ - Once per game, as a Night action, you may eat this bread. The bread will cease to exist.
