im not going to flame anyone but I am gonna suggest some game improvements to maybe… ease hosting? Leave more up to the players than the hosts.

First: a more comprehensive system of deciding what words do and do not go together (I want feedback on this)

What does count:

  • Different tenses of the same words (E.G. Run & Running, Baked and Bake)
  • Different spellings of the same word
  • Shortenings or nicknames of the name of the same person (E.G. Hazzy & Hazardwaste, Kanye & Kanye West)
  • Acronyms/shortenings of a word that means the same thing (E.G. TV & Television, Info & Information)

What doesn’t count:

  • Two very similar words that couldn’t always be used interchangeably (E.G. Fall/Autumn, House/Home)
  • Words with the same root word, but different meanings / parts of speech (E.G. Winner & Win, Conspiracy & Conspire)

Redemption System

  • Rounds eliminate X/4 + 1 (until X/4 rounds to 1), which is 5 teams left
  • after the round, partial matches are tallied
  • The 3 people with the most partial points on eliminated teams are not eliminated, but instead are all put on a team together, and have partial points reset.
  • This keeps happening until 5 players left. Then, game operates as normally (1 elim each round) until there is 1 team left. Then, the 3 others with the most total partial points come together as a sort of losers bracket, and - The Winners team and the redemption team play a double elimination final (Winners team has to win 1 round, Redemption team has to win 2)
  • Hosts very, VERY sparingly have the option to deny words should they have no relation to the 3. This is just to prevent outright cheating.

Why?
There is… some people who think that players are intentionally choosing bad words for one round to set up a match for another. IMHO, if you want to de-incentivize this, it cannot be hosts who arbitrarily decide (leaves room for favoritism, people will be pissed because of different standards, no way to decide intention). This system de-incentivizes by baking in a reward and wincon by getting partial matches.

I do think, despite everything, 3 person word match was a hit and is probably just a way better way of playing lol.
__

Other misc improvements:

  • Perhaps instead of a 72 hour cycle, instead 3 players all pick a time (roughly an hour) that they can all be on in a 72 hour period. This means hosts don’t have to be constantly checking and can instead just wait for teams pre-decided times. A special 24 hour extension for DNF teams if those still happen (however it is way less likely to affect result if teams all get a similar amount of time)
  • Some kind of separate 3rd party to unbiasedly solve word disputes should they come up (Should X & Y word count? Is Z too different of a word for A, B, and C?), who otherwise is uninvolved with the game.

I want thoughts on all of this. I am unfort too busy of a person nowadays to realistically host a word match but I want to know what people think on all of this. I am not saying all of this is gospel or I am 100% on it it’s just many ideas to make things better potentially

i would like to post my victory speech and my experiences this game

first of all, i wanna express gratitude. i wanna thank … myself. i thank myself for enduring all the trouble. i wanna thank myself for never stopping to believe in myself. i wanna thank myself for giving the best possible clues in every prompt. i wanna thank myself for keeping my head cool and not giving up when my silly muffinhead teammates were inting. i wanna thank myself for being awesome. i wanna thank myself for being a dilligent team leader, checking up on everyone. i wanna thank me for being the best

My only mistake was not considering that its probably less known among the diaper wearing sniveling Gen-Z. Star Wars was heavily inspired by Dune, and everyone knows Star Wars. Dune received recent movie adaptations last year and this depending on location. But it was absolutely the best match for those 3 words!! Sand only matches 2!! Sand does not relate to diary!!

Even if you havent heard of it a possibility was to google “book about desert”. I googled a lot of stuff this way trying to match all 3 words at prompts. If you google “book about desert” u will come to that

(was written basically entirely before)
