Possibly because its running programs in the background that connect to the internet and, when doing so, use up CPU power to process whatever its doing
i.e the cpu is no longer pulling and processing every discord message anymore

(the titular gorbino’s quest has the instakill enemy gorbino move at a speed tied to your framerate. getting around it at higher framerates requires moving past an object that goes 5x as fast as its supposed to)
