When me and Amelia ran Jackal Returns we determined that the big problem with the setup wasnât any of the individual roles or mechanics
But we determined that our Town role variety wasnât high enough across the board
Basically, due to the fact that there werenât enough roles that donât count as much towards general power evaluations, we were forced to overpower the town with too many killers, investigators, or protectives
We want to use the general town and coven role structures in a more traditional setup (basically we removed jackal, added NPs and kept the role list basically the same but adjusted to 17p)
But we canât run it until we solve the town role issue
The solution is to introduce a number of good (and well designed) roles that either increase role variety, are low-powered enough to not count too much against the overall categories, or have a unique effect that doesnât fall within the boundaries of the big 3 (and manipulatives kinda)
As it happens this is really fuckin hard to do and keep the roles well designed
Weâve added these roles or reworks to the setup so far, along with a few that Iâll describe below
Weâve only outright removed Crusader and a few other roles that were problematic (like 2 of them at most), so you can probably cross-reference this list with the one from the game and have it be 95% accurate
My questions are:
- Is this enough roles (combined with OG jackal returns roles) to where you think we could generally rand a pretty balanced game (with hosts deciding in-play roles) and not overpower a certain town category? (TI are the ~easiest to manage so we have added a bunch of TI too, and a few town supports n shit in service of the main goal)
- If not, PLEASE TELL ME WHAT ROLES I CAN ADD GOD PLEASE I BEG OF YOU

And a virtuous chancellor esque role (everyone with shots of limited use abilities left is on the list, the player can also permanently remove 1 player and add 1 player every day, and at night they perform an investigation that takes the list into account)
