I have fun earnestly trying to use my mental energy to achieve a goal that others are simultaneously trying to stop. I dont think its very fun to fuck around with game mechanics past a certain point.

if said player was particularly terrible and you wanted to give them a handicap, that’s fine, that is still within the realm of good competition, but just doing it to do it is kinda stupid imho

Random is a solid “maybe” to me because playing on random is a different experience than same character each time. Like part of the fun of the game is rapidly adjusting to a new thing each time. But there was no explicit deal in place it’s just being boring. I don’t think diamond is rude but I was flattered

if im playing purely to win i play game n watch, if I need to handicap myself a bit because game n watch is OP and I will otherwise win too often, i play wolf or incineroar for the sex appeal mostly

i find smash is kinda a dogshit game to play with friends, because skill levels will typically vary so much that I am either significantly better or worse than whoever I am playing

i mean I can enjoy something that isn’t inherently competitive but also, trying to take something that IS competitive, and then suddenly deciding to make it noncompetitive in the middle, is extremely upsetting to me
