If somebody actively held a kidās head underwater to not get fired, Iād think less of than than somebody who ignored a child drowning and doomed them to die (who Iād still obviously think very very little of)
Otheriwse reasonable people are sooo capable of justifying certain actions to themselves because itās normal and anybody would do it. Itās evil, I think āthis is normal so itās fine for me to do it even if it hurts peopleā is the greatest source of evil by volume in the world, but itās still different from going out of your way to do something abnormal that hurts people in that people driven by a sense of normality are easier to reason with and change

The results of their actions arenāt any better but itās easier to get them to stop by going āwtf no thatās not normalā. If the people around them have better expectations theyāll match

So the evil-because-itās-normal of person I think itās valuable to be around to be a source of, like, reason. To be the one saying āI donāt do that, I donāt think thatās normalā. Obviously you canāt singlehandedly change things that are clearly normalised by society but the edge cases are workable
If they sincerely donāt give a shit then thereās nothing you can do to change them and itās probably not worth being around them.
Incidentally one of the whole deals with collar person is that I saw their incidents of being an Asshole as ignorance or unawareness of what they were doing, and thatās to some extent true, but over time it became kinda clear that they donāt really care if they hurt people if itās to their own benefit. Their messages to the girl who liked their partner were really shitty in this regard.
I donāt think theyāre a Deeply Evil Person theyāre just, like, an asshole. But they are one
